March 22, 2 pm, Helene Houston, MS APRN, will give a talk on her book: The Other Couch: Discovering Women’s Wisdom in Therapy. Written with Patricia Martin through the eyes of two wise and experienced therapists, the book explores the lives of 36 spirited women who struggle and overcome their challenges with courage, resilience, and commitment. Patricia Martin and Helene Houston understand that each of us has an intense craving to be understood by others. David Mazor founded the Amherst organization when he recognized that there is an over-abundance of books in educated and affluent communities and a dearth of books in the public schools and libraries of poor urban and rural communities. He is widely recognized for his devotion to literacy, he is the Executive Director of Reader To Reader, an organization dedicated to expanding literacy and learning opportunities for the nation's most chronically underserved and vulnerable communities, including inner-city schools, Native American reservations, and poor rural towns. South Hadley Dementia Friendly Community Collaboration

People with dementia and their caregivers are often isolated and cut off from their community. Springfield Visionaries to be Honored

Twenty years ago, Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing opened its doors to older adults. That promising beginning was the result of a vision shared by leaders from Baystate Health and Springfield College who were intent on building a first-of-its-kind retirement community in Springfield. They assembled a group of leaders who planned and built a community that uniquely hosts independent living, assisted living and a skilled nursing center all under the same roof on a wooded lakeside campus.    Read more...
