Friday, October 16, 2:30 pm - Talk on the Reader to Reader program. David Mazor founded the Amherst organization when he recognized that there is an over-abundance of books in educated and affluent communities and a dearth of books in the public schools and libraries of poor urban and rural communities. He is widely recognized for his devotion to literacy, he is the Executive Director of Reader To Reader, an organization dedicated to expanding literacy and learning opportunities for the nation's most chronically underserved and vulnerable communities, including inner-city schools, Native American reservations, and poor rural towns. New or like-new books to donate are welcome!
Tuesday, October 27, 2:30pm Third String Trio will play Old-World Music Old world music is evocative of an era where friends and families would gather regularly at their favorite cafe to sit under the stars and eat, dance, and talk through the night. The music we play is drawn from many cultures that share this tradition - French musettes, waltzes & tangos from Central & South America, folk songs from Italy and Russia, country dances and jigs from the British Isles, and Zweifachers from Germany.
Both events are free and open to the public and will be held in the Loomis Village Auditorium, 20 Bayon Drive, South Hadley. For more information please contact Christine Westerholm, 413-532-5325.
