At a luncheon recently, seven independent living apartment residents at Loomis House were honored with a golden key for being good neighbors! Nominations for the award are made monthly by residents who observe thoughtful acts and kindness by a fellow resident. Honorees the past few months, April-October were:
Cindy Dant: Cindy always has a smile and a kind word for everyone she meets. She assists residents who are new to the dining room or just need a little extra help. She is a ready advocate for anyone needing a little guidance. Cindy also often brings goodies to her neighbors as a special treat and checks on them when they don’t feel well.
Esther Hafey: Esther’s neighbors who nominated her describe her as a friend to all! Esther never hesitates to lend a hand to her friends whether it is helping them to change bandages, giving a ride to a doctor’s appointment, changing hearing aid batteries, or giving a ride to dinner. She is always willing to help.
Art LaBerge: Art has been the chairman of the Resident Association since 2010. During this time he has willingly worn many different hats. He has been called on to fill in for other association positions for extended periods of time and is always available to lend a hand. Art’s willingness to listen to the concerns of each resident with respect and sincerity is greatly appreciated by all.
Marion Markwell: Marion recently joined the Resident Association Executive Council as the co-chairwoman of the Amsden Committee. Marion has taken over the running of the Unique Boutique as well as the shopping for the boutique. She is happy to take special requests. She also is friendly, caring and never hesitates to lend a hand to a neighbor in need.
Joe McNerney: Joe is the current treasurer of Resident Association. He also has organized weekly cribbage and poker games for his fellow residents. These games are enjoyed by all who participate. His fellow residents describe him and being very helpful to all of them.
Betty Reed: Betty is the chairwoman of the Welcoming Committee. She along with those who assist her, provides a warm welcome to every new resident who moves into Loomis House independent living. Betty has dinner with the new residents on one of their first nights to provide them with information about Loomis House and introduce them to some of their new neighbors.
Holly Schroeder: Holly is a member of the Resident Association Executive Council as the chairwoman of the Building and Grounds Committee. Holly does a wonderful job working with the lawn care company to take care of the grounds around Loomis House. She can often be found in the gardens tending the flowers or on the walking paths making note of anything that needs attention. Holly also assists with the popular bingo and trivia groups.
