The ladies wore pastel gowns, and the men were decked out in their finest – a few in tuxedos.

There was music, food, party favors and all of the other elements typical of one of the most important spring rites of passage for American teens.

But while the Loomis House dance looked like any other prom, this version was different in one important way.

The prom-goers were all residents of the Loomis House Nursing Center and Retirement Community. The theme for the evening was "Stars Among Us - A Celebration of Life." On the wall were several "glamour shots" of residents wearing gowns, make-up and feather boas.  Several staff members dressed in their glittery best.

A King and Queen were crowned and many danced, even if wheelchair-bound.

The Loomis Communities, with campuses in Holyoke, South Hadley, and Amherst, is a fully-accredited continuing care retirement community providing health-care options to older adults in the Pioneer Valley since 1902.
