Recently, after a morning of blueberry picking with Rob, Applewood’s Executive Director, and several of the Applewood residents, Sandi invited her cluster and other friends in for breakfast.
It was a delightful early morning gathering of about 20 residents and staff who enjoyed fresh baked blueberry muffins with assorted fruits such as watermelon, pineapple, grapes and strawberries along with coffee and tea. Several folks arrived promptly at 8:00A.M. and others wandered in for the next hour or so. They had great conversation and watched many of the rare birds who visit Sandi’s feeders in her front garden. One in particular is the Downy Woodpecker.
This is not the first time Sandi has done something like this. Since she moved to Applewood 16 months ago, she has invited residents and staff in for cider and homemade donuts at Halloween. We had to wear colorful masks and funny hats; one outstanding hat was actually a pair of fancy black underwear. At Christmas she prepared tea rings and asked visitors to bring stories or poems from their religious affiliations. Sandi had several mystery gifts for guests to guess what they were - a family tradition in her home.
Throughout the year Sandi has opened her home for readings and refreshments to the many Applewood friends and neighbors she has met. She’s involved in several committees trying to make change in the world and Applewood. We are grateful to have such a wonderful, thoughtful, and generous person among our community.
