South Hadley – The public is invited to an opening and gallery talk for photography exhibit Taste of Tanzania by Florence resident Larry Rankin on Sunday, November 5, 2 pm at Loomis Village, 20 Bayon Drive, South Hadley.

Following two trips to Tanzania, Rankin was awestruck by the beauty and drama of the present moment: colors, sounds and textures; brilliant, dancing sunlight; endless waves of grassland; vast canopies of sky and clouds; artistic and majestic trees; wind and dust; the rumble of thunder and bite of rain; magnificent animals in vast migration; the drama of hunter and prey; and a people living in both the familiarity of the past and the challenge of modernity.
Larry Rankin is a retired physician
and landscape, nature, and fine art photographer who moved with his wife Jean from central PA to Florence MA in 2013. He is a member of Gallery A3
in Amherst, and the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists. He has studied photography with Dan Larkin, Alison Shaw, David Muench, John Shaw, Nancy Rotenberg,
Allen Rokach, Henry Hornstein, and Douglass Beasley and fine art printing with Bob Korn and Jim Nichelson.
Since 2001, he has exhibited individually and in many juried shows throughout central and northeastern PA, Philadelphia, Brattleboro VT, at the Chautauqua Institute in NY, and recently in Western Massachusetts, including a solo and two person show at Gallery A3, solo exhibits at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and the Burnett Gallery, and group shows with the PVPA. Most recently, the New York Center for Photographic Art exhibited two of his images, including a first place award, at the Jadite Gallery in New York City. His work can be found in private collections throughout the eastern US, the northwest, and Canada, and in hospitals, businesses and private offices in central PA.
The
event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be open to public at Loomis Village through December 4 on Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm. For more
