Four area college students were awarded scholarships from the Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing Philanthropic Fund at an annual ceremony held at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing on August 20.
- Katie Zmuda, 21, a 2010 graduate of West Springfield High School, is majoring in Rehabilitation and Disability studies with the goal of becoming an occupational therapist.
- Maia Bayman, 18, a 2013 graduate of Southwick High School, currently attends Springfield Technical Community College and Westfield State University and is pursuing a career in nursing.
- Lauren Grocott, 18, a 2013 graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School, will attend Wheaton College to begin studies leading to a career as a psychologist.
- Valerie Cruz, 26, a 2004 graduate of Putnam High School, attends Holyoke Community College with plans to obtain a nursing degree.
All four students are employed at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing Retirement Community. When presenting this year’s awards, Scholarship Committee chairperson Bob Smith congratulated the winners, “Each of these students juggled a rigorous academic schedule along with employment at Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing. In presenting these scholarships, we commend your academic dedication, work ethic, and excellent service to our community. We wish you well!”
In order to be eligible, applicants must be employed by Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing for over one year, be in good standing, and submit an essay about their educational goals to a Scholarship Committee comprised of three resident volunteers.
